On Tuesday this week, a number of advisors to the Coastal Towns Project team met at Local Government House to discuss the findings from the initial scoping phase of the project.
I will be blogging the outcomes of the meeting in full over the next few days, but for now here are the presentations given by myself and John Fisher analysing the current state of seaside towns and proposing a some next steps for the project.
So that we capture as many of your views as possible and ensure the main phase of the project is relevant and useful to your local authority areas and your organisations themselves, I would really appreciate it if you could take a look at the presentations below and above all leave a comment on some of the issues raised, including (but not exclusively):
- who should be part of this analysis (the group of 35-40)?
- are the policy priorities identified correct?
- do you agree with the proposed next steps?
- have we missed anything obvious out?

why are there no comments – has the project been shelved? Is it still ongoing – is the lack of response a damming inditement on the apathy to be found in coastal towns- It’s now October 2008 – where r u @?

Hi Juliet
Thanks for the comment and apologies for the delay in getting back to you – you’re right we have been (too) quiet planning next steps for the project.
Having taken the project forward quite quickly before the break, we then took the summer to reflect and work out next steps. For a variety of reasons this lasted longer than we would have liked, however we are now moving the project forward once more.
We are enthused by the demand for the project – there is clearly significant interest given the presentations have now been viewed around 2000 times collectively.
In terms of what next, we are currently confirming lead partners and sponsors for the remainder of the project, which we hope to have in place by mid-December. As soon as that has happened, we will publish the update we promised with a clear outline of the project going forward.
Once again apologies for the delay but we should now be moving forward again shortly so watch this space.
